If you were waiting for some shocking reveals from the Marvel Studios panel at the Disney D23 Expo, my guess is you left feeling a little disappointed. And that’s not necessarily because there weren’t some great showings, there just wasn’t anything really new that was shown. So no, unfortunately we did not get the Fantastic Four cast revealed or any other news on the X-Men. But still, I enjoyed seeing the actors come out on stage and share their experiences. I thought it’d be fun to list some of the upcoming projects that I am excited to see, and I’m hoping you’ll share some of yours in the comments too 🙂 Now a lot of the movies/shows that were shown didn’t have many details shared, so I’m simply going off of what I know.
Secret Invasion (2023)
Oh boy, now this is the kind of Marvel I like to see. While I wasn’t initially excited about Secret Invasion (2023), this trailer got me hyped. It’s got a bit of a thriller vibe to it which I’m totally digging, and it seems like it could be very different from the other Marvel series we’ve seen so far. I’m even sensing some Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) tones (one of my favourites!) which would make the show really amazing. Of course, this is just a trailer and the actual series could be very different, but hey, one can hope.
I like that we’re building off of stories that have been already told because it makes Secret Invasion feel connected to the rest of the Marvel universe. I can’t wait to learn more about the Skrulls which we haven’t heard much about since Captain Marvel (2019), and to finally see what Nick Fury has been up to.
Samuel L Jackson is such an amazing actor and he definitely has the charisma to nail the leading role in a Marvel show. Fury is a pretty mysterious and somewhat undeveloped character, so I’m genuinely excited that he has his own series where we can further uncover his character. The trailer also shows us that we get to see some beloved familiar faces – Maria Hill, War Machine, Talos, and Everett Ross will all be making appearances. We’ve also got some new characters though, with Emilia Clarke and Olivia Colman joining the MCU. I love both of these talented actresses so I’m intrigued by what roles they’ll be playing. I think they’ll fit right in 🙂
As long as they keep this more serious tone to the show, this has real potential to become my new favourite. Fingers crossed as we wait for 2023!
Daredevil: Born Again (2024)

Okay, so literally nothing about Daredevil: Born Again (2024) has been revealed besides the cast, but that’s enough to get me excited about this one. Fan favourites Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio have returned as Daredevil and King Pin, and fans (like me) could not be more excited. I genuinely think they are some of the best comic book movie castings ever done and I’ve always been immensely impressed by Cox’s performance in the Netflix original series. While we got a little taste of his return in Spiderman: No Way Home (2021), I can’t wait to see him in his element again (and with 18 episodes!).
As a fan of the Netflix adaption of the character, I’m hoping Marvel doesn’t butcher it. I’m open to changes and seeing a new side of Daredevil, but I’m hoping they still capture the essence of the character, which is much darker and more serious than Marvel is used to showing. Marvel does a pretty good job with bringing their superheroes to life though, so I’m not too worried about it in all honesty. A little humour doesn’t hurt 🙂
Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2024)

Here’s another one where I pretty much no nothing about the movie, but I’m super excited for it because I love the characters. Ant-man is one of my favourite Marvel superheroes (might come as a shock to you) and I’ve genuinely loved both movies he’s put out so far. Paul Rudd always lights up the screen, and I have no doubt he’ll do it again in Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2024). The Ant-man movies are always so fun and quirky, I can’t wait to see what kind of adventure this one will have to offer.
I’m particularly interested Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania because Kevin Feige has stated that this is the movie that will start building towards the Avengers: Kang Dynasty. Because I’ve been struggling to see the bigger picture that Marvel is trying to create in Phase 4, I’m hoping this Ant-man movie will provide some clarity. And with Kang as the big bad guy, I’m sure it will. It’ll also be the first time we get to really see Kang in action, so I’m really curious as to what Jonathon Majors will bring to the table.
I do want to note that I am very excited to hear that Ke Huy Quan will be joining the MCU and will be a part of Loki season 2 (2023). I wasn’t particularly a fan of the first season so I’m not that excited for the show, but I just wanted to say that I’m happy to see success coming Ke Huy Quan’s way 😀
Share down in the comments which upcoming Marvel projects shared at the Disney D23 Expo that you’re excited to see! Did you see any of yours on my list? What are your thoughts?
We agree that Secret Invasion has a thriller vibe to it based on that trailer. It looks like it could be very, very different in tone from what we’ve seen with Marvel. I was stunned when I saw you noted Daredevil was going to be 18 episodes. I don’t know how long each one is intended to be, but I already am down on any Marvel streamer that extends out that far. I do expect Quantumania to be crazy, off-the-wall, and very important to “getting to” Kang as you suggested. I was interested to hear you were not a big fan of Loki as I feel the same. I love the character, but the dude has done so much bad stuff it’s very hard to root for him and or care for his well-being.

Good morning and thank you for sharing your thoughts! 😄
I believe Kevin Feige revealed at Comic-con earlier this year that Daredevil was going to be their longest series yet. I’m really excited about the 18 episodes too because we’re definitely going to get a fully fleshed out story (how exciting!). Charlie Cox also deserves a solid reboot given his talents 😊
I agree with your thoughts on Loki too – I feel like there wasn’t a need to keep his character in the MCU because his death in Infinity War felt like it gave him the right ending. Marvel just knows Loki (aka Tom Hiddleston) is such a fan favourite and that whatever show they make with him would be popular. Not really a fan of Marvel’s whole “bringing characters back from the dead” ideas though 😕

Interesting cast choices, I haven’t thought of those two but they definitely could work! What’s your thought on who should play Johnny Storm aka Human Torch? 🙂

I’ve heard other people casting him too and I think he would be a great fit as well 😀 I’m also just happy Brendan Fraser is back in the spotlight and receiving positive attention.
