Summer is always the season for big blockbusters and this year is no different. With Top Gun: Maverick and Jurassic World: Dominion currently taking over the cinemas, what’s next in line? While I always love a good popcorn munchin’ movie, I also love taking the time to appreciate some smaller films. With Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) being such a massive hit this year, I’m hoping fans will turn towards checking out some independent indie films in theatres. With that being said, check out the upcoming movies for June-July 2022 that I’m super excited about:
Thor: Love and Thunder
Release date: July 8, 2022
If you’re a big Marvel fan like me, you must also be super excited that we’re getting treated to another film so soon after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) was just released. With Taika Waititi helming another Thor movie, I have no doubt that it’ll be a wild and fun adventure. After completely rebooting the Thor franchise, we can definitely expect this one to be just as hilarious and action-packed as Thor: Ragnarok (2017). I was initially skeptical of Natalie Portman returning to play Jane Foster as female Thor, but the trailer seems promising. I’m curious about her story and I’m hoping they’ll properly explain how she took on this mantle; I really don’t want it to just be a minor detail randomly thrown in. A big highlight for this trailer though is seeing Christian Bale entering the MCU as Gorr the God Butcher. He looks incredible and I’m excited to see if they’ll manage to create another villain that is genuinely interesting and threatening (like Thanos!). With just less than a month away, keep your eye out for ticket sales which should be open soon!

Elvis
Release date: June 24, 2022
I love a good biopic and when I first saw this trailer, I was all for it. I have no idea what this movie will entail but I think that’s what’s drawing me in. The age of Elvis Presley was before my time so I’m not really familiar with who he is – I’d love to learn more about him though and this movie seems like a great introduction. Austin Butler looks stunning as Elvis and while I’ll have to wait to see the film to determine his performance, from the trailer alone, it looks like he really went in hard on this impersonation. Tom Hanks is also starring in this movie as Elvis’ manager, Col. Tom Parker, which is such a good bonus. I mean, when has Tom Hanks ever starred in something bad?
Marcel the Shell With Shoes On
Release date: June 24, 2022
Okay, I did not expect a tiny shell with a glued on googly eye to entice me as much it did, but it REALLY got me. This trailer played during my screening of Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) and I have to admit, I really want to watch this movie. All it took was watching this trailer one time for me to say, “yep, I’ll be checking this one out.” We don’t often get movies that seem so completely innocent and pure, but this one really feels like it will be. I want to follow along on Marcel’s journey, and I’m sure along the way there’ll be heartwarming moments, tear-worthy moments, and a bunch of good laughs. Who doesn’t love a movie that’s so evidently full of heart? I’m always looking for a feel good movie so I’m hoping this one will be just that. Since this movie isn’t a big blockbuster, it’s likely you haven’t seen or heard of it yet. If so, please check out the trailer! I’m sure it will make you smile. 🙂

Let me know in the comments below what movies coming out in June-July 2022 that you’re excited to see!
Tops of my to-see list as well! I’m eager to find out more about Natalie Portman’s, Jane, and how she acquires the hammer.
Baz Luhrman’s Elvis trailer looks flat out spectacular. And Marcel The She’ll😂 I finally saw this trailer recently, and before that I was like what the hell is this Shell movie people keep talking about.
